Since the Covid pandemic, a home office is part of life for many people. According to the platform statista.com, 48 percent of companies surveyed in Austria said that their employees work at least partly from home (as of summer 2022). At the same time, however, we are seeing a trend towards ever smaller apartments. Very few people have the luxury of a spare room that's available to be turned into an office. Despite this, there's no need to use the kitchen table as a workspace: thanks to space-saving furniture, you can compensate for the lack of space by using clever ergonomic solutions.

Here we present three practical ideas from Blum:

Workspace on demand

If you've incorporated a home office into your living space, you want to be able to shut it away when not in use. The pocket system allows you to conceal individual areas and even entire runs of units. When it's time to work, open the doors with a light touch and push them into the side pockets. At the end of a long day's work, restore the space to a living room by simply closing the doors.

Advantages of this solution:

  • No need to clear things away, the entire home office can be quickly hidden away

  • When open, the doors disappear completely into the pocket

  • Suitable for recesses from 450 to 3,000 mm wide

  • Easy opening with motion technology TIP-ON

Wall cabinets are just the job

Stay lifts such as are ideal for the study. The wall cabinet front lifts up and out of the way. Blum's patented opening angle stop ensures that the front does not hit the ceiling on floor-to-ceiling furniture. The fitting is extremely functional and compact and has already won several awards for its minimalist design.

Advantages of this solution:

  • Full freedom of movement as the front moves up and out of the user's way

  • A range of different front designs are possible

  • For cabinets 205 to 600 mm high and up to 1800 mm wide

  • In the case of handle-less fronts, the SERVO-DRIVE and TIP-ON motion technologies offer electrical and mechanical support respectively

Home office on wheels

The mobile multifunctional workstation fits into even the tiniest home and can be moved to wherever it is needed. It is a further development of a standing desk and has pull-outs that are opened on opposite sides to prevent instability. The upper worktop easily slides to one side, so you don't have to clear things off the desktop to get to a laptop underneath.

Advantages of this solution:

  • Can be implemented with all box and runner systems by Blum

  • Comes in all heights, widths and depths to suit personal requirements

  • Easy access to office supplies

  • Highly functional office furniture with a small footprint

  • Can be moved around on wheels
