Inner dividing system: a before and after comparison

Goodbye chaos! The right inner dividing system can transform the jumble in our drawers into neatly arranged contents. With little effort, a remarkable difference can be achieved – and everything is finally easy to find. We use four typical drawers to show what a difference good organisation can make.

Why bother keeping a drawer tidy? The answer is simple – because order has real benefits:

  • It saves time: A tidy drawer means you spend less time searching for the things you need.

  • It protects your contents: When everything has its place, items don’t slide around and end up becoming scratched or dirty.

  • It supports your wellbeing: A sense of order is a fundamental human need, and a well-organised home has a positive effect on our wellbeing.

Still not convinced? Blum Inspirations illustrates the difference using four drawers that are especially prone to being messy.

1. The junk drawer

Who hasn’t got one? That unassuming drawer in the kitchen or office where everything ends up that doesn't quite belong anywhere else. It’s the place we’re most likely to allow to descend into chaos – but it doesn't have to be that way: Group items by task and size, and soon a sense of orderliness emerges. A well-organised inner dividing system provides an instant overview of the contents, making everything easy to find at a glance.

2. The cutlery drawer

A cutlery insert is non-negotiable. But good organisation shouldn’t stop at knives, forks and spoons. Peelers, whisks and spatulas are also easier to find when they have their own place. When the entire drawer is divided into sections, rather than simply fitted with a loose cutlery tray, all the contents remain tidy and easy to see at a glance.

3. The spice drawer

Because spices play such an important part in everyday cooking and are used several times a day, they should always be kept within easy reach. A practical approach is to organise them by packaging type, grouping jars with jars and sachets with sachets. Within these groups, the items can be further arranged by flavour or cuisine, as preferred.

4. The office drawer

Almost every (home) office has one: a drawer filled with all sorts of stationery – pens, scissors, paper clips. Here too, a well-arranged dividing system makes all the difference, especially when work gets hectic and everything needs to be at the ready. Organising the drawer is also a perfect opportunity to have a good clear out: Do those pens still actually work? Are those business cards hopelessly out of date? When you get around to it, you’ll often find that a surprising number of things don’t earn a place in the newly organised drawer at all – they belong straight in the bin.

All details at a glance:

  • An inner dividing system saves time, protects stored items and contributes to a greater sense of wellbeing

  • Sorting contents by task, size and packaging typequickly creates a more orderly overall impression

  • Dividing the entire drawer into sections keeps all contents clean and clearly arranged

  • Organising the drawer is also the perfect opportunity for a proper clear-out
