Rui Alexandre, the co-founder of Maria Riding Company, loves unique design: his company was born out of a desire to create and sell extraordinary motorbikes, helmets, surfboards and skateboards, in fact anything the team feels a desire to design. But Rui also concedes: "Creative work is dangerous. It's a dark place for me." He adopts the attitude that when you initially start to tackle a problem, you have no idea how to solve it. He needs to dedicate peace and quiet, space and time to it. Take surfing, for example, where the surfboard has to ride in harmony with the wave. "It's the same when it comes to design," he explains. "Design has form and function."
For "his" LEGRABOX design, Rui Alexandre drew inspiration from architecture. The interplay between light and shade on a building in Lisbon provided the initial idea, and he added an organic touch to create the resulting design elements, which are perfection itself. He wanted the elements to have a hand-drawn feel to them.

Drawers are the perfect solution
