For a perfect first impression

First impressions count – not just when meeting people, but also when entering someone's home. A neat and tidy entrance area makes a great first impression. But unfortunately, cloakrooms are often one of the most cluttered areas as there isn't enough space in the rest of the home. In rental apartments in particular, the hallway is often small so there are only a few options to create an appealing design. So we got to work and used our worldwide observations from Blum requirements research to develop a solution. Integrating a number of our products, our concept cloakroom offers custom storage space and easy access for a clutter-free hallway. With our design, the cloakroom has been divided into three modules for a solution that's even more compact.

We based our design on the different functions of a cloakroom:

  • Reception hall

  • A place to hang jackets and coats

  • Storage for small items such as scarves, gloves and hats

  • Shoe cupboard

Compact furniture with hidden talents

The combination of open and closed furniture provides easy access to objects that are used regularly, while also concealing and protecting other items. The  This step makes it easier to put on shoes, and also boasts additional storage space hidden underneath.

Shelf and clothes rail

The clothes rail in the open section of the unit provides sufficient space for jackets and coats that are used on a regular basis. These could also be placed in the closed area in the short term to keep the clothes rail free for guests. The shelf above is particularly suitable for helmets, hats or similar items. SPACE STEP makes it easy to access the hat shelf.

Full visibility and always within easy reach

A pull-out clothes rail is hidden behind the doors on the left-hand side. The clothes rail is attached to the underside of a pull-out shelf meaning the entire depth of the cupboard is utilised. Clothes on the rail can be easily seen and removed, ensuring optimal use of the storage space in the narrow cabinet. In our example, we've used the pull-out shelf with our runner system. Some of the drawers underneath the hanging cupboard are equipped with hidden inner drawers. Practical inner dividing systems such as help to organise odds and ends such as keys or accessories.

Tip: if you have long coats, you can plan for one less drawer to extend the hanging space.

A "larder" for shoes

A tall cabinet with individual pull-out drawers was built in on the right-hand side of the hallway furniture. This design is based on the SPACE TOWER larder unit. In this application, drawers with lower drawer sides are installed.

Bringing order to every drawer

The individual drawers have been equipped with a metal inlay to provide space for at least four pairs of shoes. All racks are made from material that is easy to clean.

Hanger for boots

In the upper area, a pull-out clothes rail serves as an additional hanger for knee high boots. The rail was also fitted on the underside of a pull-out shelf.

Tip: the width of the cabinet should accommodate the largest shoe size. The larger the shoe, the wider the cabinet.

The right solution for every hallway

The area under the stairs is a great place to carve out extra storage space. Choose from different opening options – either drawers that can be accessed directly or doors with internal drawers and pull-out shelves concealed behind them.

Hallway furniture with open drawers

There are so many ways to tailor storage space in the hallway to your needs. In addition to the cloakroom, this family opted for a cupboard for cleaning supplies and shoes and a large cupboard for food, instead of a pantry.
